About

Igor Samuk — tinkerer, builder, and chronic starter of weekend projects.

I'm Igor — a software developer by trade, a tinkerer by instinct. I've been writing code professionally for over twenty years, but the projects that actually excite me tend to happen at home, on weekends, in the basement, usually involving hardware that's doing something it wasn't quite designed to do.

This blog is where I document those projects. Not tutorials, exactly — more like honest write-ups of what I was trying to do, what went wrong, and what I ended up with. I cover a lot of ground: home automation and IoT (I run a fairly involved Home Assistant setup), home lab infrastructure (Proxmox, TrueNAS, networking), occasional coding projects, and more recently, videography. The videography thing started as a way to document the other projects and turned into its own rabbit hole, as these things do.

The name Makeventures is exactly what it sounds like — a log of making things, and the small adventures that come with it. Some projects take a weekend. Some have been running in the background for years. All of them taught me something, even when the something was "that was a complete waste of a Saturday."

If something here is useful to you, I'm glad. If you spot an error or have a better way of doing something I've described, I'm always interested to hear it.
